Joseph Calleja

Biography

Joseph Calleja is a Maltese operatic tenor born on January 22, 1978. He began singing at 16 and made his operatic debut as Macduff in Verdi's Macbeth at 19, winning the Belvedere Hans Gabor Competition that same year. Calleja won the Caruso Competition in Milan in 1998 and was awarded a Doctor of Literature Honoris Causa by the University of Malta in 2012 for his international success as a tenor.
