Biography

Henry Alfred Kissinger was a renowned American diplomat and politician born in Germany to a Jewish family in 1923. As a refugee from Nazi persecution, he emigrated to the United States in 1938, later becoming a professor of government at Harvard University. A key architect of détente with the Soviet Union and a pioneer of Realpolitik, Kissinger served as US national security advisor and secretary of state under Presidents Nixon and Ford.
