Biography

Ritwik Ghatak was a Bengali filmmaker and script writer known for his meticulous depiction of social reality. Alongside Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen, he charted the independent trajectory of parallel cinema in India, a counterpoint to mainstream Hindi cinema. Ghatak received awards including the National Film Award's Rajat Kamal Award for Best Story and the Padma Shri for Arts in 1970. His notable works include "A River Called Titas" (1973) and "Jukti Takko Aar Gappo."
