Ousmane Sembène

Biography

Ousmane Sembène was a renowned Senegalese film director, producer, and writer, widely regarded as the "Father of African film." Born in Ziguinchor in 1923 to a Lebou family, he drew inspiration from Serer religious festivals, including the Tuur festival. His work often explored themes related to his Serer heritage. He was considered one of the greatest authors of Africa by The Los Angeles Times.
