Her feature film "20 Fingers" (2005) won a prize at the Venice Film Festival digital film competition, highlighting her early success in the industry. Akbari has also faced censorship and controversy due to her frank discussions of sensitive topics, making her one of Iran's most outspoken filmmakers.
