Jack Cardiff

Biography

Jack Cardiff was a British cinematographer, film and television director, and photographer who made a lasting impact on cinema with his influential colour cinematography for directors such as Powell and Pressburger, Huston, and Hitchcock. His critically acclaimed film Sons and Lovers (1960) earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. Cardiff was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2000 and received an Academy Honorary Award in 2001 for his contributions to cinema.
