Gu Changwei

Biography

Gu Changwei is a Chinese cinematographer and film director born on December 12, 1957, in Xi'an. A graduate of the Beijing Film Academy's Photography Department, he began his career collaborating with fellow filmmakers Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou on notable films like "King of the Children" (1988) and "Red Sorghum" (1987). Gu has since worked with major American directors, including Robert Altman on "The Gingerbread Man" (1997), and branched out into film direction with his debut epic "Peacock" in 2005.
