Oliver Sacks was a renowned neurologist and writer, born in London in 1933. He spent his career studying neurological disorders, including the mysterious sleeping sickness epidemic of the 1920s, which inspired his book Awakenings, adapted into an Academy Award-nominated film in 1990. His work on the epidemic led to a deeper understanding of its complexities and sparked a new interest in the history of science.
