Meera Syal

Biography

Meera Syal is a British comedienne, writer, and actress born on June 27, 1961, in Wolverhampton to Indian Punjabi parents. She rose to prominence as part of the team that created Goodness Gracious Me, and later became a household name for her portrayal of Ummi in The Kumars at No. 42. Syal was awarded an MBE in 1997 and recognized as one of Britain's funniest acts by The Observer in 2003.
