Biography

Daniel Dale Johnston was a singer-songwriter and artist regarded as a significant figure in outsider, lo-fi, and alternative music scenes. Born on January 22, 1961, he spent extended periods in psychiatric institutions and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. His cult status grew after Kurt Cobain wore an "Jeremiah the Innocent" t-shirt featuring Johnston's artwork, and his music gained international recognition for its "pure" qualities.
