Gary Foley

Biography

Gary Edward Foley is a renowned Aboriginal Australian activist and academic, born in 1950 of Gumbaynggirr descent. He co-founded the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra in 1972 and established an Aboriginal Legal Service in Redfern in the 1970s. Foley also co-created the first Indigenous Australian stage production, Basically Black, before becoming a Professor at Victoria University's Moondani Balluk Indigenous Academic Unit.
