Biography

Muddy Waters was a seminal figure in post-war blues music, known as the "father of modern Chicago blues." Born McKinley Morganfield on April 4, 1915, he began playing guitar and harmonica by age 17, influenced by local blues artists Son House and Robert Johnson. He recorded his first songs for Columbia Records in 1946 and went on to create blues classics with his band, including "Hoochie Coochie Man" and "I Just Want to Make Love to You."
