She portrayed Detective Senior Constable Allie Kingston in the Channel 7 police drama City Homicide from 2009 to 2011 and appeared in the science fiction thriller film Knowing (2009) alongside Nicolas Cage. Townsend also worked as an assistant dramaturge on George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
