He graduated from La Quinta High School in California and attended California State University, Long Beach. Joon's breakthrough came when he was discovered by a casting agent for a Janet Jackson video, leading to his first television appearance, which garnered him popularity as Song Hye Gyo's boyfriend on the sitcom "Soon Poon San Boo In Kua".
