Biography

Manley Augustus Buchanan, known as Big Youth, was a Jamaican deejay born on April 19, 1949, in Trenchtown, Kingston. He began his career as a diesel mechanic, developing his toasting skills while working, and eventually became the resident deejay for Lord Tippertone's sound system by 1970. Big Youth gained popularity throughout the 1970s, performing at dances and collaborating with influential producers like Lee Perry and Phil Pratt.
