Biography

Grandmaster Flash is a hip-hop pioneer and DJ born Joseph Robert Saddler on January 1, 1958, in Barbados. He grew up in the Bronx, New York, attending parties set up by early luminaries and learning from Pete Jones and Kool Herc. With his unique technique of cutting and scratching, he co-founded Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, pioneering MCing and freestyle battles, before going on to achieve numerous accolades, including a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2007.
