Biography

Robert Michael Nesmith was a member of the pop rock band the Monkees and co-star of the TV series The Monkees (1966–1968). He continued his successful songwriting and performing career with the First National Band, scoring a top-40 hit with "Joanne" (1970), and as a solo artist, achieving an international hit with "Rio" (1977). He also pioneered the music video format with his company Pacific Arts, winning the first Grammy Award for Video of the Year for "Elephant Parts" (1981).
