Pauline Collins was a British actress born on September 3, 1940, in Exmouth, Devon, to an Irish-descent family. She rose to fame playing Sarah Moffat in Upstairs, Downstairs and its spin-off Thomas & Sarah during the 1970s. Collins won numerous awards for her title role in Shirley Valentine, including a Laurence Olivier Award and BAFTA, before reprising the role in a 1989 film adaptation that earned her Golden Globe nominations.
