Vasili Merkuryev was a renowned Soviet and Russian stage and film actor, theater director, and pedagogue born on April 6, 1904, to a mixed Russian-German family. He became a People's Artist of the USSR in 1960 and won the Stanislavsky State Prize of the RSFSR posthumously in 1979. Merkuryev rose to prominence as a comedic actor, with his notable role in the 1957 film "Letyat zhuravli".
