Biography

Charles Bates was a child actor who appeared in over 40 films between 1935 and 1952, including notable roles as Tommy Marat in "Shockproof" (1949), Adam in "Pursued" (1947), and young Roger Newton in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "Shadow of a Doubt" (1943). He went on to study electrical engineering and retired from the State of California in 1996. Bates passed away in Spokane, Washington in May 2023 at the age of 88.
