Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen was born on October 16, 1988, in Amsterdam to movie director Willem van de Sande Bakhuyzen. He gained recognition with the role of Erik in the VPRO series De Daltons in 1999, later landing notable roles in films Cloaca (2003) and Leef! (2005), as well as a leading part in Afblijven (2006). Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen graduated from the Theatre Academy Maastricht in 2011.
