Fano Messan was a French actress and artist born on February 18, 1902, in Tarbes, France. She forged her path as a sculptor by disguising herself as a man, gaining access to Parisian studios and galleries where women were excluded. In 1924, she showcased her work in Chicago, USA, with an article featuring her sculptures in the Chicago Tribune. Her androgynous style and collaboration with notable artists defined her presence within the Parisian cultural scene of the late 20s.
