Isabel Coixet

Biography

Isabel Coixet Castillo was born on April 9, 1960, in Sant Adrià del Besòs near Barcelona. She began filming at age seven with an 8mm camera and later majored in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century history at Barcelona University, laying the groundwork for her future career as a filmmaker. After graduating, she worked in advertising before transitioning to film full-time. Her feature film debut in 1988 marked the beginning of a prolific directing career.
