Monte Blue was a romantic leading man in the silent film era, later transitioning to character roles, earning his breakthrough as Danton in Orphans of the Storm alongside sisters Lillian Gish and Dorothy Gish. He rose to stardom as a rugged romantic lead with top actresses like Clara Bow, Gloria Swanson, and Norma Shearer. Blue became one of the few silent stars to survive the talkie revolution, rebuilding his career as a character actor until 1954.
