Pat Smear

Biography

Pat Smear, born Georg Albert Ruthenberg on August 5, 1959, is an American musician and guitarist for Foo Fighters. As the lead guitarist and co-founder of the punk band Germs, he formed in Los Angeles with vocalist Darby Crash in the late 1970s. After Nirvana disbanded following Kurt Cobain's death, Smear joined Foo Fighters as a touring guitarist in 2005, rejoining full-time in 2010.
