James Kunen

Biography

James Simon Kunen, born in 1948, is a notable author and journalist who wrote The Strawberry Statement, a first-person documentary of the Columbia University protests of 1968. His experiences at the institution led to his arrest for trespassing during the student sit-in, which inspired his writing. After graduating from Columbia, Kunen became a field journalist in Vietnam, later working as a public defender and editorial page editor.
