Biography

Francesco Clemente is an Italian contemporary artist born in Naples in 1952. He was a key figure in the Italian Transavanguardia movement of the 1980s, which rejected Formalism and conceptual art for a return to figurative art and Symbolism. A mentorship with Alighiero Boetti had a significant impact on his work, and he also collaborated with artists such as Luigi Ontani and Cy Twombly in Rome.
