James Warren Jones was a charismatic preacher and cult leader who founded and led the Peoples Temple from 1955 to 1978. He orchestrated a mass murder-suicide at his remote jungle commune in Jonestown, Guyana, on November 18, 1978, resulting in over 900 deaths, including 304 children. Jones described this act as "revolutionary suicide" and it had a profound impact on society's perception of cults.
