Biography

Fréhel was a French singer and actress born Marguerite Boulc'h in Paris to a poor Breton family. She rose to prominence as a music-hall performer under the name Pervenche, meeting her first husband Robert Hollard before their tumultuous marriage ended. Her life took a dramatic turn after a 19-year-old suicide attempt, which led her to escape and live in Russia for over ten years, later returning to France with a troubled past marked by struggles with addiction.
