Biography

Joseph Vito DeSantis was born on June 15, 1909, to Italian immigrant parents in New York City and studied sculpture and drama at New York University. He debuted as a broadcaster on an Italian-language radio station in 1931, later working with the Works Progress Administration and narrating Norman Corwin's On a Note of Triumph after World War II. DeSantis transitioned to television and film, becoming known for his character acting roles in series such as The Untouchables and Bonanza. He retired to Provo, Utah in 1978 and passed away in 1989 at the age of eighty.
