Alfonso Gatto

Biography

Alfonso Gatto was a prominent Italian poet and writer of the 20th century, known for his contributions to hermetic poetry alongside Giuseppe Ungaretti. He studied at the Salerno classic lycaeum and attended the University of Naples, but was forced to discontinue due to financial constraints. Gatto's anti-fascist activism led to his arrest in 1936, and he went on to co-found the magazine Campo di Marte with Vasco Pratolini in 1938.
