Biography

Virginia Bruce was a versatile American actress and singer who began her career as an extra in films like Why Bring That Up? (1929) and on Broadway in musicals such as Smiles (1930) and America's Sweetheart (1931). She married co-star John Gilbert, with whom she costarred in the film Downstairs (1932), before returning to a hectic schedule of Hollywood appearances. Her notable roles include Jenny in Night Has a Thousand Eyes (1948) and Lucy James in Born to Dance (1936).
