Biography

Emily Ann Saliers is an American singer-songwriter and member of the musical duo Indigo Girls, born on July 22, 1963, in New Haven, Connecticut. She co-founded the band with Amy Ray at Laurel Ridge Elementary School in Decatur, Georgia, and graduated from Emory University with a degree in English in 1985. As lead guitarist and singer, Saliers has built a distinctive voice and multi-instrumental style that has endeared her to audiences worldwide.
