Gianni Garko was born Giovanni Garcovich in Zadar, Croatia (then Italy), on July 15, 1935. He studied acting at the Piccolo Teatro di Trieste and later at Rome's Accademia Nazionale d'arte drammatica. Garko gained fame as a leading man in Spaghetti Westerns, starring in films such as "If You Meet Sartana Pray for Your Death" (1966) and its sequels, cementing his reputation as the iconic character Sartana.
