John Gilbert
Biography
John Gilbert was a renowned American actor who rose to fame during the silent era as "The Great Lover". His breakthrough came in 1925 with starring roles in The Merry Widow and The Big Parade, rivalling Rudolph Valentino as a box office draw. However, his career declined sharply with the advent of sound films, due largely to his distinctive voice being perceived as unsuitable for talking pictures.
