Alvin Goldstein was a Brooklyn-born, Jewish-American entrepreneur and activist who gained notoriety as the publisher of Screw magazine, a provocatively explicit sex newspaper. Born in 1936, he attended Boys High and served in the Army Signal Corps before building a career as a photojournalist, industrial spy, and insurance salesman. Goldstein was also an outspoken advocate for First Amendment rights, particularly in the context of adult entertainment. He passed away in 2013.
