A doctor named Louis Creed moves his family to rural Maine after his job as a local physician. After their cat Church is killed, a friendly neighbor guides Louis to bury it in an ancient burial ground that brings it back to life evil. The reanimated Church returns home and wreaks havoc, leading Louis to exhume his son Gage's body and bury him at the same site, resulting in disaster when Gage is also resurrected as a malevolent entity.
