Midnight's Children

The film "Midnight's Children" tells the story of Saleem Sinai (Satya Bhabha), a Canadian-British actor, born at the exact moment of India gaining independence from England in 1947. He begins his narrative by describing his birth and then jumps back to his grandfather Dr. Aadam Aziz, who marries Nasim, resulting in three daughters. As Saleem grows up, he develops special powers, including telepathy, which sets him apart from his family and peers. After forming a group of children with similar abilities, called the Midnight's Children's conference, Saleem is forced to go into exile when it is revealed that he was not born to his biological parents. He later joins the Indian army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and becomes part of a crew sent to fight in East Pakistan, which helps India gain Bangladesh. As he grows older, Saleem falls in love with Parvati-the-witch (Shabana Azmi), but she is already pregnant with Shiva's child.
