Space Battleship Yamato

In 2199, humanity is on the brink of extinction after years of attacks by alien Gamilas that render Earth's surface uninhabitable. Former pilot Susumu Kodai (Takuya Kimura) discovers a capsule sent from the planet Iscandar containing plans for a new warp drive and coordinates to the planet. The Earth Defense Force rebuilds the battleship Yamato with a new propulsion system to make the 148,000 light year trip to Iskandar in hopes of saving the Earth. As the Yamato crewmen perform their first warp test, they encounter more Gamilas ships and eventually destroy the alien capital ships. However, during a rescue mission for Yuki Mori (Meisa Kuroki), Kodai is sent to the brig for disobeying orders. The crew discovers that Iskandar possesses a device that can remove the effects of radiation, but it's unclear if this is a trap. Upon arriving at Iskandar, Kodai leads an attack party against heavy Gamilas opposition and eventually reaches the coordinates where he finds out that the planet was once home to two aspects of the same race: the Gamilas and Iskandar. The alien possesses Yuki's body and explains that they saw Earth as a suitable replacement after killing off humanity. Iskandar implants in Yuki the ability to cleanse the radiation from Earth, allowing the Yamato to return home where Captain Jyuzo Okita (Toshiro Yanagiba) dies.
