The Captain

Germany, 1945. A young Luftwaffe paratrooper, Willi Herold, stumbles upon an abandoned uniform of a Nazi captain and assumes the identity, becoming emboldened by his newfound power as he commands a group of disparate troops, including deserters and sadistic soldiers. As he rises to lead them in brutal acts of execution, Herold's grip on reality falters, revealing the dark side of human nature that even the most desperate circumstances cannot redeem. The film is a chillingly persuasive study of corruption, power, and the horrors that can be perpetrated when followers are drawn to a charismatic leader, no matter his true identity.
