The Libertine

The Libertine (2004) is a period drama film set in 17th century England, based on the life of John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester. Johnny Depp stars as Rochester, who is asked by King Charles II to write a play celebrating his reign while training Elizabeth Barry, played by Samantha Morton, to improve her acting skills. As Rochester's life becomes increasingly decadent and troubled, he faces various challenges, including the king's displeasure with his work, his own illness, and a hidden daughter by Elizabeth.
