Brad Whitewood Jr., played by Sean Penn, lives in rural Pennsylvania and wants to emulate his father's life of crime, led by Christopher Walken as Bradford "Big Brad" Whitewood Sr., a career criminal. Despite initial encouragement from his 16-year-old girlfriend Terry, played by Mary Stuart Masterson, and his brother Tommy, played by Chris Penn, Brad Jr.'s gang is eventually arrested, leading to a series of violent events. Ultimately, Brad Jr. takes the witness stand against his father in court.
