In medieval Italy, a young thief named Phillipe Gaston escapes from the Bishop of Aquila's dungeons through the sewers and is rescued by Captain Etienne Navarre. As they journey together, Phillipe discovers that Navarre has a mysterious connection to a beautiful woman who transforms into a hawk by day and a wolf by night - his own former lover, Isabeau.
