In the claustrophobic and atmospheric 2016 film "The Lighthouse," two lighthouse keepers clash in a battle of wits and sanity on a remote island in the Irish Sea. Based on a true story, this psychological thriller drama takes inspiration from the infamous Smalls Lighthouse incident of 1801, where Thomas Howell and Thomas Griffith were stranded for months. With excellent acting and strong writing, the film masterfully captures the tension and desperation that builds as the two men fight to survive against their own demons.
