The Triple Echo

Glenda Jackson stars as Alice Charlesworth, a homesteader whose life is disrupted when her husband is captured by the Japanese during WWII, and she finds herself forced to care for her farm alone. She takes in a wandering soldier named Barton (Brian Deacon), who helps with the farm work and becomes her lover. However, when the military police come looking for deserters, Barton must disguise himself as a woman, "Cathy", to stay with Alice, which attracts the attention of a sergeant posted nearby, played by Oliver Reed.
