The Blue Lamp

PC George Dixon (Jack Warner), a long-serving traditional copper due to retire shortly, takes new recruit PC Andy Mitchell (Jimmy Hanley) under his wing and introduces him to the night beat. When Dixon is gunned down by a hot-headed crook, Mitchell, the force, and the close-knit community all rally round to catch the villain. The film's stark portrayal of a murder investigation in 1949 London, with its blend of social realism and cinematic noir influences, makes for an authentic and gripping watch.
