Altered States

In 1967, Edward Jessup is a Columbia University psychopathologist studying schizophrenia. He thinks that "our other states of consciousness are as real as our waking states." He begins experimenting with sensory deprivation using a flotation tank, aided by like-minded researchers, Arthur Rosenberg and Mason Parrish. At a faculty party, he meets fellow "whiz kid" and his future wife, Emily. Edward Jessup's journey into the depths of human consciousness takes a perilous turn as he delves into the mysteries of altered states with the help of psychedelic substances from Native American shamans. He finds that memory, time, and reality itself are but states of mind, leading him to experience bizarre and terrifying transformations.
