In 1971, American master chemist Elmo McElroy (Samuel L. Jackson) is pulled over for driving under the influence and his career as a pharmacologist is left in shambles due to his arrest and conviction. Years later, drug lord "the Lizard" hires Elmo to sell him a powerful new synthetic drug, POS 51, which can be produced with minimal facilities and is 51 times as potent as other drugs. Chaos ensues when Elmo's formula falls into the wrong hands, leading to a web of deceit, double-crosses, and a high-stakes game of cat and mouse involving Felix DeSouza (Robert Carlyle), skinheads, and a deadly contract killer named Dakota (Emily Mortimer).
