A journalist duo, Brian Kessler (David Duchovny) and his girlfriend Carrie Laughlin (Juliette Lewis), embark on a road trip to California to research serial killings for a book, accompanied by two unlikely companions: Early Grayce (Brad Pitt), a psychopathic parolee with a childlike waitress girlfriend Adele Corners (Michelle Forbes). Unbeknownst to the couple, Early has a dark secret of his own, leading to a perilous journey filled with murder, kidnapping, and betrayal.
