College students Jim Halsey and his girlfriend Grace Andrews give a ride to a hitchhiker on a rainy night through the New Mexico Desert, unknowingly embarking on a chain of events that will change their lives forever. They soon discover that the stranger, John Ryder, is a psychopath who proves to be a menacing threat to the young couple.
